Scone Stock Report: April 4
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE were fewer numbers due to the recent rain, so there were only 810 penned with a pretty good quality on offer and they were younger cattle.
There was a good run of vealers, as well as some finished grain fed cattle and the majority were some good weaners and a light number of yearling cattle.
All cattle were dearer, lighter cattle were 20 or 25 cents and better weights of weaner from 270 to 300 kilos they were probably five to eight cents better and the heifer portion was probably 10 cents dearer.
Good trade cattle were firm and a tad dearer in places.
There were only 60 cows penned but they were firm and bulls were firm also.
Since the rain there is not the urgency to sell, so they can get the cattle a bit heavier or wait a couple of weeks.
There were farmers around the Rouchel area who were having to sell a few weeks ago because they had no feed, but parts of the Rouchel have had some good rain.
If there is another fall in four to six weeks it would be ideal, it is looking like a good autumn.
There is a weaner sale on Thursday, April 20, so there will be a few for it.
