An Army Marches on its Stomach

THE Scone Country Women’s Association have spent their  afternoon getting lunch packs ready for the volunteers who will be going to the Sir Ivan fire ground fencing tomorrow.

Lisa Bourke jokingly said her baking skills should not be inflicted on the hungry volunteers so she used her organising skills instead.

Who knew making egg sandwiches could be so much fun: Wendy Wright, Helen Barwick and Kerry Hindle.

“Brad rang me on Wednesday afternoon and said they needed lunch packs for the volunteers, so we were pleased to help,” said Ms Bourke.

“On the menu are sandwiches of ham and cheese, ham and pickle, roast beef and relish, corned meat and pickles and egg and lettuce,” she said.

“There will also be fruit and of course slice and biscuits, enough to keep them going,” she said.

“We really feel for the farmers out there and we know it could just as easily be us, so to spend an afternoon is the least we can do and we actually have a good time together,” she said.

Wendy Wright was busy making lunches today and will eat one herself tomorrow as she is also one of the fencing volunteers.

The New South Wales Country Women’s Association have also donated $50,000 to the people impacted by the Sir Ivan fire.
