Junior Touch Teams Best Ever
SCONE’s under 10 boys Scone Touch football team finished in the top four of the state on the weekend beating Manly 7 to 4 in the quarter finals to make the semi-finals.
Nicky Western, junior co-ordinator for Scone Touch Football said the four junior teams which competed achieved outstanding results.
“It was the best we’ve ever done, we have never made it through to the games on Sunday before, that was our best result to date,” said Ms Western.
“They play Friday and Saturday and then if they get through those rounds then they play on Sunday”.
The 14 year old girls side coached by Sophie Casson played well and ended up placing about halfway out of all the teams in the state. The age brackets for the competition are inclusive of two years for this competition.
“They were going as 12 year olds playing under 14’s, next year they will go as 13 year olds playing under 14’s so they will be much stronger. They did really well to end up about halfway down the pack in the state,” Ms Western said.
The 12 year old boy’s side coached by Jesse Schumaker and Scott Pennell made it to the top 16 teams in the state.
“The 12 boys only lost one game throughout Friday and Saturday so they made it into the top 16, they played on Sunday morning but unfortunately got beaten 5-2 so ended up in the top 16 for the state”.
The under 10 boys side coached by Aaron Watts pushed through for a top four finish.
“The under 10 boys kept going and beat Manly in the quarter finals before coming against Northern Beaches in the semi’s and went down by a couple of tries ending up in the top four of the state,”said Nicky Western.
