Scone Golf: Feb 1 – 5

THE regular lady golfers headed out early for 9 holes at Scone on Thursday, February 2.

The winner of the Royal Hotel Café voucher was Joan Shaw who had 16 points to beat Marie Murray and Doon MacCallum on a countback.

Noreen Marshall and June Jukes rounded out the ball winners.

On Thursday, February 9 the back nine will be played for “The Nook” voucher.

The 9 hole competition has proved popular and with a couple of weeks before the main season begins on February 23, a few more ladies might need to dust off the clubs and enjoy the course.

The Wednesday Red Tee Challenge on February 1 resulted in 1st place to Mat Pringle 27 points, 2nd to Sean Constable on 24 points, on a countback from Adrian Fuller who won the 3rd prize.

On Saturday, February 4 the men played the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug as an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford.

In stifling hot conditions the bulk of the players used carts to play their round or went out very early.

The Mug and C Grade winner was Russell Nicholls who had a great 65 nett.

The A Grade winner was Ross Banks who had 38 points, whilst B Grade went to Adrian Fuller who had 37 points.

Simon Groom won the NTP on the 2nd / 11th with a fine shot to 1.75 metres.

Mick Alsleben won the 8th / 17th with a shot to 3.87 metres.

The ball winners again needed a high score to collect and they were: Russell Nicholls 43, Kallen Brownlee 40, Ross Banks 38, Simon Groom, Adrian Fuller 37, Mick Alsleben 36, Stuart Dawson and Scott Lye 35, on a countback.     

In the ladies competition Yvonne Palmer had her first win with 31 points in the stableford event.

On Saturday, February 11 the players will contest an 18 Hole Stableford for the David Bradshaw and Rod Vaughan Trophy, and it is also the third round of the Summer Shield.

The draw for the Snyman Knockout is displayed on the golf notice board with round one needing to be played by March 4.

Entries for the prestigious Kevans Knockout are being called for and close on March 11.

The Senior team travelled to Cypress Lakes to play Branxton on Sunday, February 5 in round two of the Hunter River District Pennant.

The team had a win led by Paul Smart and David Bradshaw who won their match 4 and 2.

The pairings of Mick Alsleben and George Campbell and David Druce and George Davidson both squared their matches.

On Sunday, February 12 the team takes on Dungog at Maitland.
