Australia Day Ceremonies

AUSTRALIA Day will be celebrated across the Upper Hunter today with award ceremonies, free pool passes, barbeques and cricket matches find out what is happening in your town:

Aberdeen:

  • Ambassador: Writer Dr Benjamin Veness.
  • 1pm Awards ceremony and lunch at the Sport and Recreation Club, Jefferson Park. $15 bookings essential on 6543 7226.

Merriwa:

  • Ambassadors: Pauline Carrigan from Where There’s a Will Foundation and John Paul Young OAM renowned for hit songs “Love Is in the Air”, “Yesterday’s Hero” and “I Hate the Music” and also a long time supporter of children’s charities.
  • 10.30am Awards ceremony and free barbecue lunch, Merriwa RSL Club.
  • Free Merriwa pool entry 2pm to 6pm with games, prizes, free sausage sizzle, and a local DJ playing great Australian music.

Murrurundi:

  • Ambassador: Greg Donovan, founder of Born to Run which raises funds and awareness of Type 1 diabetes.
  • 8am Murra Country Markets to 4pm.
  • 10am parade at Wilson Memorial Oval.
  • 11.30am Awards ceremony and games at Wilson Memorial Oval, entertainment by Pat Drummond, barbecue and Mayor’s 7 cricket match at 3pm.
  • 1pm to 6pm Free Murrurundi pool entry.

Scone:

  • Ambassador: Writer Dr Benjamin Veness.
  • 10.30am Awards ceremony at Scone Council Chambers.
  • Scone RSL Pipes and Drums and Scone Singers will be back. Refreshments from Scone CWA.
  • Free Scone pool entry noon to 4pm with Lions’ sausage sizzle, Sparkles the Clown, and Music from Cam’s disco.
