Storm Damage, More to Come

THE storm that hit Scone yesterday afternoon caused trees to be blown down and 18.2mm of rain to dump in the area.

A fence was damaged when a tree was blown onto it at the corner of Forbes Street and the New England Highway.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the storm started gathering force at Mudgee yesterday where gusts of up to 130km/h were recorded.

Isolated thunderstorms dumped rain across the area although the amounts were not consistent with the Merriwa weather station recording a fall of 10mm and nearby Mar-Lea weather station recording 16mm.

Murrurundi recorded 30mm to 7.30pm last night with most of the Upper Hunter receiving between 10 – 20mm.

Storms are predicted for tomorrow across the Hunter with possible damaging winds (BOM defined as gusts up to 95km/h) and isolated heavy rainfall.

The Bureau of Meteorology said there is a slight possibility of destructive wind gusts with the storms across the area (BOM defined as gusts up to 120km/h).

Because of the unpredictability of storm activity the bureau advises people to keep up to date with local storm warnings.
