Local Archers Bring Back Medals
UPPER Hunter residents all brought back medals from the World Field Archery Championships which were held in Wagga Wagga last month.
Joanne Bogie was excited to bring back two silver medals and a bronze medal.
“I got silver in my individual, the Australian team was bronze and in our style our team won silver,” Ms Bogie said.
“There were 16 countries and in my individual event I was personally competing against Americans,” she said.
“Unfortunately the last two days were cancelled due to the wet weather down there and on the third day of shooting I was quite sick, but I still shot well and I only made one mistake but it cost me four points which meant I ended up two points behind instead of two points in front.
“Overall I won the first day and the other girl won the next two days,” she said.
“The event is run every two years and the next event is in South Africa and I will absolutely be going to that, it is in the diary,” Joanne Bogie laughed.
Fenny Thompson from Rouchel came third in the veterans freestyle and her son Jock placed first in his style team.
“I competed against two other Australians and five New Zelanders,” said Ms Thompson.
“Jock also came fourth in his freestyle division and a first in his Australian style team,” she said.
“We had a great time and it is just a pity the weather wasn’t better and the event was cut short,” said Fenny Thompson.
Both Joanne and Fenny credit the local archery club for fostering the family orientated sport and encouraging them to becoming involved with the sport.
