Vale Jack Reichel
JACK Reichel passed away on Friday afternoon aged 80: February 22, 1936 – 30 September, 2016.
His wife Nancy said he was watching his favourite TV show, Million Dollar Hot Seat and passed away comfortably; while he had been unwell with asthma and heart complications he had remained fairly active.
His family say they will remember him as a wonderful and generous man who worked hard and was always willing to lend an ear.
Many in the community will remember him for his happy go lucky nature and one of the last of a generation which had great local farming knowledge.
Jack was born in Scone, grew up in Scone and went to the local school.
His family originally lived at Littlefields at Middlebrook and after the ’55 floods moved to a property on the northern side of Scone.
Jack worked as a wood carter, truck driver, was a supervisor on the railway line and a farmer growing wheat, lucerne, sheep, cattle and some delicious suckling pigs.
“Young fellas would come out here for miles to ask him about different things,” said Nancy Reichel.
“They’d ask about machinery, farming, what he fed the pigs, how he got them to grow the way they did, everything really,” she said.
“I think he just learnt through trial and error himself and he was happy to share it with people,” she said.
“He was a great worker he never ever stopped for five minutes, he was unreal,” she said.
“He’ll be remembered for a long time and not forgotten,” Nancy Reichel said.
Jack and Nancy had two children, a son Shane who has passed away and their daughter Tracey.
He enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
FUNERAL DETAILS: The funeral will be held at 10am, Thursday, October 6 at St Luke’s Church and a wake will be held afterwards at the Scone RSL Club.
