Shooting for Australia at the World Titles
THIS week Joanne Bogie will compete in the Australian team for the World Field Archery Championships in Wagga Wagga.
Joanne only began the sport three years ago after watching her nephews compete, but has shown a natural ability for archery.
“I guess it did come fairly naturally; my daughter can pick up a bow and shoot it and she is a natural, whereas my husband is more natural on the horse,” she laughed.
“I started the sport because it was something that I could do myself, my husband is into horses and does camp drafting and this was something that I became interested in,” she said.
“It is a sport where you can be as competitive as you want or it can be as fun as you want.
“I love that it is an outdoor sport, that you shoot with different people all the time, it can be relaxing but also hard work with the terrain and shooting through trees; it is always interesting and challenging,” Joanne Bogie said.
Joanne was chosen to be in the Australian team after competing in the National titles in Mudgee in June.
“I am very excited to be going the to worlds and very honoured to be chosen in the team,” she said.
“I was picked for the squad when I was in Mudgee, then they picked one person from each division to make up the team of seven and I am the only female in team,” Joanne Bogie said.
Joanne will shoot three different styles two field, two hunter and one animal round each with 28 targets.
There are four arrows for each target and on the animal round which uses images of animals, only three arrows.
Fenny Thompson from Rouchel and her son Jock Thompson will also be competing in the International Field Archery Association event in Wagga Wagga this week.
