Born Yesterday
THE first foals of the season were born yesterday, with August 1 marking the standardised birthday for all horses in the southern hemisphere.
The first foal to drop was at Cressfield Stud, a by colt by champion sire Sebring x Prairie Star.
Cressfield will foal approximately 80 mares this season.
The farm is best known for producing Group 1 winner Onemorenomore who stands at nearby stud Vinery.
Also born in the early hours of yesterday morning was grey colt by Declaration of War x Love Her Madly colt foaled at Edinglassie Stud.
Edinglassie will foal approximately 90 thoroughbreds this season.
The farm has produced a string of racetrack success stories including Group 1 Nechita as well as Shooting To Win, which stands at Godolphin in the Upper Hunter and is, as an aside, expecting his first crop of foals this season.
The farm also consigned Australian Broodmare of the Year Listen Here for $3.4m at the recent Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
There will be more than 5,000 thoroughbreds born this season in the Hunter Valley, with Scone the epicentre of thoroughbred breeding in Australia and the second largest breeding area in the world after Kentucky in the United States.
