Thank You Councillor Bishop
COUNCILLOR Peter Bishop has stepped down from Council and confirmed he will not be running in the local government elections in September.
Cr Bishop was thanked by his fellow Councillors for his valuable contribution on Monday night and Mayor Wayne Bedggood said his humour would be missed.
“I thank Peter for his time on Council and we will miss his pithy wit, forthright demeanour and the camaraderie that he brought to the table at meetings,” said Mayor Bedggood.
“Peter made a great Chair of the finance committee because of his strong financial acumen and his very clinical view of finance and where money should be spent, but more so where it should not!” he said.
“Peter has a strong view on everything and was never backward in voicing his opinion,” he said.
“This said, he could be convinced to accept another view if given rational, fact-based and compelling argument,” he said.
“He will be sorely missed in Council and made out time all the more interesting with his dry humour and irrepressible character,” Wayne Bedggood said.
Peter Bishop had served one term on the Upper Hunter Shire Council, but had also served nine years on Merriwa Council and was an inaugural director of the Hunter Development Board.
He said he was looking forward to spending this time writing poetry.
“This Council is running well and has been rewarding to be involved in,” said Mr Bishop.
“Issues are well debated and the outcome is usually a victory for common sense,” he said.
