Strathearn House Open

STRATHEARN Village’ new multi-million-dollar Strathearn House was opened yesterday morning to a crowd of about 500 well wishers and residents.

The new village headquarters and residents rooms or flats is one of the most modern retirement villages in Australia and when finished will be a credit to the region.

President Gordon Halliday said the work so far had amounted to $22m and congratulated the number of people who had come together to make the dream a reality.

He said works had also been assisted by a $15m loan from the Federal Government.

He went on to thank the council for its involvement and assistance in the project which is ongoing.

Chief executive Matt Downie boasted the village was one of the most up-to-date around and built on the a ‘House Model of Care’.

Then pointed out it comprised the “smarts” of the smart technology era.

Sensors were used extensively for lights and movement making it easier for residents to move around and night and also alert nursing staff.

Staff will wear devices which are linked into the switchboard and give immediate contact to other members of staff as well as outside lines.

“There are fibre connections in every room,” Mr Downie said.
