New Bypass Designs
NEW designs have been produced for the Scone bypass, following some fairly intense but productive meetings between Council and the Roads and Maritime Services.
See recent diagrams below.
The main changes include full turning movements at all approaches to the bypass.
At the southern bypass approach there will be an underpass for vehicles from the south to access Scone and allow vehicles to access the bypass northbound without needing to turn across southbound traffic.
The speed limit remains 100 kilometres an hour, which is still opposed by Council and Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce said in an interview in March that he saw no reason why there could not at least be a trial when the bypass was open for an 80 kilometre speed limit.
“Why don’t we just trial it at 80 kilometres an hour and see if we can deal with that specification, if you go through the town you’ll have to go at 40 kilometres an hour, trial for 80 kilometres for five years and then reassess,” said Barnaby Joyce.
Mayor Wayne Bedggood said the designs were intricate but improved.
“They are rather intricate but they work to give greater access,” said Mayor Bedggood.
“We have queried the northern end because without knowing where we will have the overpass we need to be sure the bypass design is adaptable,” he said.
“We got a promise for more money during the election, but we were promised the final information by the RMS in June and we have still not had anything from them, which is frustrating,” said Wayne Bedggood.
The RMS has said they will be releasing the final designs and the report on the submissions to provide context later this week.
The town centre rail over bridge is yet to be selected, with Council preferring an option in the industrial area and the abattoir.
