ALCOHOL and petrol were stolen from two sheds at Scone Park, the home ground of Thoroughbreds rugby league, on Tuesday night.

The burglars forced their way into one shed by smashing the service counter, jemmying open the door and breaking the  slide locks.

Once inside they smashed the glass doors of the fridge, stole two cartons of pre-mix drinks worth approximately $160, leaving behind the beer and cider.

They also broke into the area under the grandstand by forcing the door and stole a red plastic 20 litre drum of petrol.

On Wednesday morning, a Council worker noticed the grandstand door was open and alerted the Club.

Police were informed and forensics were called to examine the scene.

David Casson, club secretary of the Thoroughbred’s said they were dismayed by behaviour.

“It’s very disappointing to think that people would be actively trying to take advantage of a non-profit organisation such as ours, we are working hard all through the season to get the funds to pay for our expenses and a kick like this doesn’t help at all and is very disappointing,” said Mr Casson.

“Our club runs on volunteers and relies wholeheartedly on them for every aspect from setting up, running the Sundays, to committees to run the club overall and it’s a massive amount of effort from not a large group, so this is a backward step for us” he said.

“There will be a lot of people who will be very interested to find out who did this to us” David Casson said.

The doors under the grandstand that a council worker noticed open early Wednesday morning.

Mr Casson urges anyone who hears or knows of anything to contact the police or the club.
