Scone Stock Report: June 21
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE was a reduced yarding of 785 cattle due to the rain, which saw numbers tighter across New South Wales and a stronger market across the board.
There was a light penning of cows, which saw the best cows make to $2.58, but across the board cows were another 4 to 6 cents dearer.
The majority of the yard was made up of light weaners and a nice run of grain fed cattle, with a sprinkling of other categories.
Light weaners probably sold 5 to 10 cents dearer than last week and grain fed cattle sold for similar rates also, with the tops of the best finished calves making up to $3.60.
It’s good to see the Page’s River come through well, so it’s good to see some water, Kingdon Ponds isn’t flowing yet, but they are talking about more rain at the end of the week so there are some signs of it being a wet winter.
There will be a very small number of cattle yarded over the next six weeks, which is usual during winter, but more so because of the weather and we won’t get up to larger numbers until spring and due to lack of numbers we should see very good results in market profits.

STORE SALE:
LAST week’s store sale saw a yarding of 250, with the majority being cows and calves and pregnancy tested cows.
All categories sold to very strong rates, because of the current conditions.
