Due to changing Covid-19 restrictions, police deemed it too difficult to plan crowd control along Kelly Street, resulting in the decision to change the Service and March location to the War Memorial Swimming pool.
Coleen Brown, Secretary of the Scone RSL Branch said RSL members met with local police two months ago to start planning.
“We went into all the issues of trying to control the people up there. The restrictions are changing every day. Unless you have a seated ticketed event, the two square metre rule still applies,” Ms Brown said.
“It’s usually held along the main street but this year we’ll be able to close off Guernsey Street to implement the Covid-safe plan,” she said.
“The War Memorial Swimming pool location worked for Remembrance Day last year, so we’re hoping for the same result on ANZAC Day,” she said.
“Hopefully we can get back to normal next year.”
Under the current Covid-19 restrictions, 150 participants will be allowed at the new designated area event.
Each person participating in either the outdoor ANZAC Day March or service must provide their name, telephone number or email address to the nominated organiser including returned services, official guests, band members and those requiring seating.
Guests who require seating are advised to arrive 15 minutes early as there will be limited seating available on the day.
Covid-19 personnel dressed in green vests will be available to assist on the day. General public participants including school groups will be able to stand outside the designated area on the footpath.
To participate in Scone or Gundy Services, contact Coleen Brown on 0487 450 306. Please note Guernsey Street will be closed during services in Scone.
