2016 Merriwa Cup
THE winner of this years Morgans Stockbroking 2016 Merriwa Cup was Bench Star, trained by Damien Lane from Wyong and ridden by apprentice jockey Jackson Murphy.
Sue Bayliss, secretary for the Merriwa Cup said it was their first time to Merriwa and they had a good day, as did the crowd of 900 people.
“The weather was a little bit overcast, we had a little bit of a cool southerly, but I think everybody managed alright,” said Ms Bayliss.
“We had a very nice crowd and backing onto the end of the school holiday time, so we had a nice little mix to have the young ones come along, enjoy a race meeting and get involved in what goes on,” she said.
“We had some nice fashions with the girls all frocked up, we just invite people to come on down and it was lovely to see people make an effort; Mrs Llewellyn won,” she said.
“It was an excellent day,” Sue Bayliss said.
