Weather Near Fire Ground
The Bureau of Meteorology said a south westerly has been moving through the Sir Ivan fire ground causing temperatures to cool and winds to drop off in strength.
The Sir Ivan fire which started in Leadville has burnt through 14,535 hectares and is threatening the townships of Cassilis and Merriwa.
“There was some quite significant cloud development around that fire with a couple of lightening strikes which is quite unusual, but the chance of thunderstorms is really only going to be for the next couple of hours and dropping off quite quickly once that change moves through,” said Gabrielle Woodhouse.
“There is a chance you could see a light shower, but beyond that it’s not looking very likely to see decent rainfall, there is rain much further south in the state and at the moment looking unlikely that it will reach further north to the Sir Ivan’s fire,” she said.
“At the moment there is a southerly change slowly heading towards the Upper Hunter, it is approximately two thirds of the way between Newcastle and Scone which will call temperatures to drop off in the next couple of hours,” Ms Woodhouse said.
