Time to Help the Chopper

THE government only funds 70 percent of the budget for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and they need to raise another $12 million each year to stay in the air.

The choppers average four missions per day attending calls for help from the Hawksbury River through to the Queensland boarder.

With the winter months ahead of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Chief Executive Officer, Richard Jones is calling for the community to support the Service’s End of Financial Year Appeal and donate before the June 30.

“Since 1975 the Westpac Rescue Helicopter has relied on community support,” said Mr Jones.

“And in 2018 our End of Financial Year Appeal is an important part of our annual fundraising program,” he said.

“Small or large, every amount donated will stay locally and will help to ensure that the Rescue Helicopter can continue to fly 24-7 as a free service,” he said.

“By the end of the year the Service is expected to assist close to 2,000 people, and not one of those people assisted will have to pay to use this vital service,” he said

“Whilst the Rescue Helicopter crew are on the front line of the Service, their job is only made possible because of the generous people and businesses throughout Northern New South Wales and in the Upper Hunter area, the donations from payroll deductions and the mines is really important to us,” he said. 

“We are ever so grateful for the continued support we receive and cannot thank our community enough for helping us to continue our life saving work,” Mr Jones said.
