Take a Look at the New Town Centres
THE draft plans for the town centres of Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone are now on display and Council want opinions on the new designs.
Sean Constable, manager business and enterprise tourism for Upper Hunter Shire Council, said the plans are creative and hopefully create plenty of community feedback.
“The master plans are quite extensive and imaginative and Council is ready for plenty of debate and discussion,” Mr Constable said.
“Council wants to hear people’s views and so instead of the usual 28 day display they will be on display for 42 days,” he said.
“If you can’t make it to the community consultations, have a flick through the report on your town, to see the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures showing artists impressions of how our main streets could look,” Sean Constable said.
The designs for Scone have been based on the bypass being built and heavy vehicles being diverted from Kelly Street, but not knowing where the overpass may be built is problematic for the designers.
“We’ve asked the designers to base the designs on the assumption that there won’t be trucks in the main street,” he said.
“It has been designed as a local road, rather than a highway and while it would be helpful to know where the overpass will be, we can always modify the plans if we need to,” Sean Constable said.
