Storms on the Way
IN the next hour Scone and parts of the Upper Hunter can expect thunderstorms with the chance of heavy rains, possibility of hail and wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres an hour.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the storms will be concentrated around the Liverpool Range with one storm just passing through Nundle and on the way to Murrurundi.
“One has just gone through Nundle and there are some between Scone and the Barrington Tops, so I’d expect those in the next hour or so,” the spokesperson said.
“They are moving fairly slowly at about 20 kilometres an hour, but there is the potential for them to impact most of the Upper Hunter including out to Merriwa,” he said.
The forecast for the rest of the week was described in one word, “hot”.
“The temperatures will be in the 40’s, Scone is currently sitting at 39 degrees and it will be 39 or 40 tomorrow, Tuesday will be hotter in the low 40’s and on the forecast all the days are above 37 degrees, so a period of sustained heat and not much in the way of rainfall either,” he said.
The storms today may be the only relief expected in the Upper Hunter this week.
Temperatures may drop by 10 degrees in and around the storm cells.
