The positive identification was made yesterday following a postmortem conducted in Newcastle.

The remains were removed from the site on Sunday, with forensics continuing to search the surrounding paddocks for further evidence with the assistance of the dog squad and a search and rescue team until yesterday.

The family of Ms McBride were notified on Sunday by police that they had found remains which they believed may have been be Carly’s and confirmed the identification with them late yesterday.

Detectives have been investigating Ms McBride’s disappearance under Strike Force Karabi and are treating her disappearance and death as suspicious.

Inspector Guy Guiana said, “it is good for the family to be able to put her to rest, but there is a lot more work to be done in the investigation.”

The most recent warrants executed by police in the search for Carly were on April 23 last year at three addresses: Gundy Road, Scone; Ted Clay Street, Muswellbrook and Hayes Street, Scone.

As a result of the warrants three firearms including two shortened firearms, a silencer, an extendable baton, a quantity of methamphetamine and $5,875 in cash were seized.

A 24 year old man was arrested at the Muswellbrook address for 13 offences in relation to the possession and supply of methamphetamine, possession of firearms and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Police stressed at the time that while the charges did arise from the investigation, they were unrelated to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Carly.

Another line of enquiry police are continuing to pursue relates to Ms McBride’s Facebook account being deleted shortly before her disappearance.

Police confirmed they are still working with the Attorney General’s office and the United States Department of Justice to source Facebook data held in the US.
