Pool Policy Restricting Age Passed
THE Council have just passed a motion to change the pool policy so that children aged 12 years and younger will need an adult to accompany them to the pool.
There has been feedback to the editor that people believe children 12 and older can now go to the pool without an adult, this is NOT the case. The policy has been changed from children 10 and under not being able to go to the pool without an adult, to children 12 and under not being able to go to the pool without an adult. Please note: This decision is only for one swim season, then organisers are concerned they may raise the age again.
Adult was defined as a person 16 years or older.
Councillors Lee Watts and Sue Abbott strenuously argued that the new policy should not be implemented with Cr Abbott saying she will continue to pursue the matter.
The Council chamber was packed with community members opposed to the change and the Mayor warned the community several times that they were not allowed to clap or cheer during proceedings.
