No Questions Asked During Amnesty
BEGINNING on July 1 there will be a national gun amnesty for three months and the local representative for the Fishers, Shooters and Farmers Party, John Preston, is encouraging people in the Upper Hunter to take advantage of the no questions asked opportunity.
“If you’ve got uncle Albert’s World War II officers pistol kicking around the back of the bedroom closet this is a good time to take it down to a gun dealer and remember it will be no questions asked,” said John Preston local candidate for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party.
“Take any firearms which are unregistered or you may be curious about their legality and you can taken them in to a gun dealer with complete anonymity and remember it is no questions asked, you don’t even need to identify yourself,” he said.
“I think it is probably a good idea that we run a permanent gun amnesty which is happening in South Australia, it is a poignant reminder that we want fire arms that are in the community stored safely and handled safely and they need to be registered,” he said.
“We have a good regulatory framework with gun laws in New South Wales, we’ve got falling gun crime, even though we have rising gun ownership and everyone needs to play their part to make sure that the gun crime keeps falling,” he said.
“Firearm ownership is a lot of fun, target shooting or whatever you like to do, but it has to be safe and we love firearm owners to be law abiding and for firearms to be registered so we know where they are and what they are doing,” John Preston said.
Firearms can be handed into at police station or a licenced gun dealership.
