New Evidence Reinvigorates Investigation
INSPECTOR Guy Guiana said the discovery of Ms McBride’s remains on a property west of Scone on the Bunnan Road on Sunday had led to them collecting a range of new evidence and has reinvigorated the investigation.
“The actual description of the scene and the circumstances in which they (the remains) were found is still fairly fresh and I can’t comment on that at this stage,” said Inspector Guiana.
“It’s taken us two years to get this break through and we’ve got a fairly vast volume of fresh evidence that we need to evaluate and until we’ve done that in a more thorough fashion we need to keep it under wraps,” he said.
The cause of Ms McBride’ death remains undetermined by forensics but police are hopeful cause of death will be determined.
“Being skeletal remains that’s going to take some time to determine,” said Inspector Guiana.
“Almost from the beginning we have treated this as a suspicious disappearance and the investigation continues in that fashion.
“We don’t believe that this was a random act so we are digging into her past and as many people as we can find that knew her.
“We don’t believe it could be linked to other murders and think it is a one off.
“We would certainly like to speak to anyone who has any information for us; as I’ve said we have a rage of new evidence here now that we’ve collected from the scene and that will certainly strengthen the investigation and we’ve got a team that is hard at work on that, but any piece of information that can be given to us.
“In my time as a police officer I’ve seen quite a few crimes, but obviously Carly has two young children who are 4 and 8 years old and they’re going to want to know what happened to mum and obviously her parents and everyone who knew her well,” he said.
Inspector Guiana said they had not ruled anyone out as a suspect and in light of the new evidence will re-evaluate all previous information.
“We are going to revisit all past statements at the information that was given to us and we’ll evaluate that when we look at it again,” said Inspector Guiana.
“We believe someone who knew Carly has some information for us and we really want that person or people to come forward,” he said.
“The nature of Facebook is those enquiries are still ongoing but the Facebook page, yes the timing of its deletion very soon preceding her disappearance is part of the investigation,” he said.
During a search warrant in April last year as part of the investigation for Ms McBride, a 24 year old male was arrested on unrelated charges, but has not been ruled out as a suspect.
“I stress the charges that were laid were unrelated to the disappearance of Carly and at this stage we are looking at all possibilities,” Inspector Guiana said.
