Mersadies Bound for State Titles
MERSADIES Cadalbert will compete at the state athletic titles in Sydney next month, after placing first in the 100 metres at Newcastle.
Russell Sakey, who has coached Mersadies said she has a shot at breaking 12 seconds in the 100 metres.
“She had a time of 12.56 which is 6 seconds for 50 metres and I reckon if she gets her skates on she could crack the 12 second barrier and I reckon she can do it by the time she runs at state,” said Mr Sakey.
“She did exceptionally well in Newcastle last week, much better than I expected,” he said
“She is still battling with her illness, but she also had a stomach virus on the lead up so we only had one training session, but she still ran a pretty hot time for the 100 metres,” he said.
“There will be two training sessions a week, plus one longer run and she also wants to do some gym work, so she is definitely keen to do well,” he said.
“We’ll give it a crack and hopefully she will go well,” Russell Sakey said.
At the diocesan carnival in Newcastle she placed:
- 1st in the 100 m 17+ women;
- 2nd in triple jump,
- 2nd in shot put
- 3rd in long jump, and
- was also in the relay team.
