Hutchinson Matter Adjoured Again
CATE Hutchinson appeared in Tamworth court this morning with legal representation, but the solicitor had not had time to review the brief and the matter was adjourned until August 24 with bail to continue.
Ms Hutchinson’s solicitor said he had only received the brief, in excess of 6,000 pages at the end of June and his first opportunity to meet with Ms Hutchinson was this morning.
Magistrate Prowse was annoyed that the matter had already been adjourned for seven weeks and satisfactory progress had not been made.
“If you put the justice system and a dead snail in a race you’d put your money on the dead snail,” said Magistrate Prowse.
A legal aid representative said it had been a lengthy process to assess if Ms Hutchinson’s previous legal representation, who wanted to continue to represent her, were able to satisfy the legal aid requirements, which they did not.
In more pleasing news to Magistrate Prowse the legal aid representative advised that the Director of Public Prosecutions was appointing a junior counsel to the region, who would be involved with the Hutchinson case and his commencement date would be confirmed later today.
