First Cricket Photo Re-enactment Match
THE first photograph taken of a cricket game in Australia and possibly the world was by Joseph Docker on his property Thornthwaite, Scone sometime before the 1860’s when he left the district.
The event captured the imagination of Scone resident Anne Davies who organised a re-enactment match for charity which is held biennially.
“This is the third time we have held the event and it’s on the exact spot the cricket game was held 150 years ago in the paddock,” said Ms Davies.
“It’s a beautiful place and the Paspaly’s allow us to use their weaner paddock which is really kind of them,” she said.
“The descendants of Joseph Docker now travel from all over Australia and overseas to come back to the cricket match which is really nice.
“In previous years we’ve held it in November, but it can be scorching hot so we’ve decided to hold it earlier and this spring weather is lovely for picnic a day out with the family.
“Players from Rouchel and Belltrees cricket clubs are organising the teams to play,” she said.
“There is a gold coin donation which goes to the Scott Memorial Hospital and last match we raised $2,000 for lockable patient cabinets,” said Anne Davies.
People are encouraged to bring a picnic and there will be a coffee cart and drinks for sale, but please do not bring any dogs.
