Farmers Not Museums Need Help
“It is little wonder farmers are becoming so angry, they are being treated with complete contempt by all levels of government,” said John Preston from the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party following the announcement of the federal budget in which no allocation was given for drought relief.
“In the middle of one of the worst droughts they have experienced all they are being offered is meagre low interest loans, which will put them further in debt and the government will actually profit from their hardship with the interest they pay back,” he said.
“Yet they have just announced they will be relocating a museum from one side of Sydney to the other, just 22 kilometres away, at a cost of $1.5 billion,” he said.
“Just imagine the relief farmers would feel if that kind of money was spent on agriculture, on an industry that keeps this nation afloat economically, but instead it’s going to a museum,” he said.
“Our farmers are being treated with contempt and it is cutting the legs out from underneath one of the most important sectors of the Australian economy, I understand why farmers are so angry,” John Preston said.
