Diving In for New Blocks
THE Scone Swimming Club is calling for local businesses to dive in and help them raise money for new starting blocks on Friday, March 2.
Josh Arnot, committee member of the Club said he was thankful it was a handicapped race.
“I’m going to have a jump in and a paddle,” he laughed.
“I’m not very fit, but I’ll have a swim and thankfully it is handicapped so anyone n win that is the beauty of a handicap,” he said.
This year the annual fundraiser aims to buy new starting blocks for the Scone War Memorial Swimming Pool and new backstroke boards.
“It will benefit everyone who uses the pool, which is the great thing,” said Mr Arnot.
“If a business would like to sponsor a team and have a team name then they can do that and we can try and find swimmers to fill that team if they don’t have a team, they might only have three members and we can find the other three,” he said.
A new committee is at the helm of the swimming Club and they encourage the community to come down and enjoy a Wednesday night swim.
“We’ve got a nice family based Wednesday night swimming Club and it’s a bit of fun, some of the kids are competitive while others are there for fun and a bit of a social night,” he said.
“We’ve had some good results this year, throughout the Club we are blessed with some really good swimmers who are going into regional swims and that next level of swimming, so those that are competitively swimming are doing really well,” Josh Arnot said.
