Council Meeting: May 2016
THE May meeting of the Upper Hunter Shire Council began with a presentation by Jill Hamling outlining the work of the new not-for-profit organisation Showstoppers Performing Arts Company for People with Disabilities and the recognition of Council employee James Constable, who has retired after 31 years of service.
The comments made within the Council meeting included:
- Cr Campbell questioned if the sheeting of roads would be done in sections;
- Cr Campbell questioned if it was worth spending money on environmental education and the Mayor confirmed it was a priority and Council planned on promoting one environmental tip each week;
- Cr Campbell said he was impressed by Jill Hamling and the Showstoppers Performing Arts Company;
- Cr Watts questioned why a Muswellbrook organisation was applying for funding from the Upper Hunter Shire Council for physical culture and Cr Peebles said it was important that the activity continue in Merriwa. Cr Campbell questioned if instead of Council subsiding the program if the participants could not contribute a nominal amount such as $1 each. Council staff agreed to provide more information to the Councillors;
- Cr Campbell asked what the outcome was with grading on Avocado Road and it was confirmed it was graded;
- Cr Peebles requested leave for one month to go on holidays;
- Cr Peebles commented on how successful the disability walk in Denman was;
- Cr Campbell said that ‘in the briefing’ he noted an issue with the work schedule for the resheeting of roads including the plan for Waverly Road. Council staff committed to provide more information and
- Cr Campbell asked when the chevron signs on Wembembel Road would be assessed, Council staff were reviewing the matter.
