Conditions Easing for Fire Fighting
THE Sir Ivan fire continues to move in a north easterly direction, but weather conditions have eased and fire fighters are hopeful they can take advantage of the reprieve before the weather heats up towards the end of this week explained Tim Carroll from NSW Rural Fire Service.
“Crews worked through the night to continue building containment lines and were able to make direct hits on the fire with water bombing aircraft,” said Mr Carroll.
“We are using forward looking infra-red to find hot spots and address them and we have crews supporting Local Land Services with stock welfare,” he said.
“There are local and out of area fire crews and a strike team from Fire and Rescue assisting national parks firefighters,” he said.
“While we’ve got these milder condition we are making the most of it and we expect the temperature and winds to pick up throughout the day,” Tim Carroll said.
Residents of Cassilis, Coolah and near Warrumbungles Way are advised to continue to monitor the situation closely and be prepared to implement their bush fire survival plan.
The Golden Highway remains closed.
