Children to Converge on Scone
ORGANISERS are expecting between 500 and 600 school children from Tamworth and the Upper Hunter area at tomorrow’s Group 21 rugby league in Scone.
Jamie Munn from Scone Junior Rugby League said the carnival was a great opportunity for children to try rugby league.
“There are teams from Tamworth and throughout the valley down to Singleton and it is a great chance for children to see if they like the game and then they can join up with a local club,” Mr Munn said.
“The children range in age from 7 to high school and after the match they all get a free sausage sandwich, a drink and a piece of fruit,” he said.
“This year for the first time we will have a mixed league tag exhibition match and hopefully introduce ladies league tag to the whole carnival next year,” he said.
“We have put a lot of work into the carnival, especially Marika Eveleigh who has run the carnival for 10 years and we are hoping to get her to run it for another ten years,” he laughed.
Lucks Meats and Scone Old Boys will be running the BBQ, there will be a full canteen and some stores on the hill selling league guernseys and protective gear.
