In a statement provided to scone.com.au they apologised for the inconvenience to Bones and said in future trains will move the appropriate carriage to him:
“NSW TrainLink apologises to Mr Curtis for the inconvenience he has experienced boarding the XPLORER train at Scone Station.
“Cars D and F on XPLORER trains are wider than other cars to ensure people in wheelchairs and on scooters have room to get on, off and around the train.
“The train’s crew can make sure cars D and F pull up at the appropriate part of the platform so that customers in wheelchairs and on mobility scooters can enter and exit the train safely.”
Bones said he was pleased someone in the department of transport had listened.
“Thank you for taking the time to listen to me,” said Bones.
“I knew what I was doing and I wish the train people would have listened to me at the time,” he said.
“This has made my life a little bit easier to board the train now,” Mark “Bones” Curtis said.
The Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre books the train for Bones and will make specific mention that the train must now be moved for Bones to board at the higher end of the platform.
Other passengers with similar concerns should specify where they need to board when booking their tickets.
Local Transport Committee
While the Local Transport Committee last met in Scone, in December 2015, a new regional consultation process will be developed in the next couple of months to ensure local people have a voice with transport.
