2017 Young Citizen of the Year
RACHEL Pittman was awarded the Upper Hunter Shire Council Young Citizen, the Young Citizen of the Year and the Academic Achievement award for Scone High School at the Australia Day awards ceremony in Scone.
Rachel said she was completely overwhelmed by the awards.
“I am overwhelmed and thankful to be part of such a great community,” said Ms Pittman.
“I am passionate about this community and I’d like to thank Ms Lindy Hunt the principal of Scone High School for nominating me,” she said.
“I’d also like to see type 1 diabetes become type none diabetes,” Rachel Pittman said.

Rachel achieved the highest academic outcomes for her year at Scone High School, ranking first in a number of Year 12 subjects and received the school’s ‘Academic Excellence Award’.
She was school captain last year, Wattaka House captain in 2015 and an active member of the Student Representative Council.
Rachel was involved in all aspects of school and community life and regularly represented the school at zone level swimming, and zone, regional and state level athletics.
An outstanding initiative in 2016 was a whole of school fundraising effort called “Onsie Day” where Rachel raised over $1,000 for research into Type One diabetes.
Rachel participated in the Grip Leadership Conference in 2016, the NSW Premier’s Australia Day luncheon last year as a representative of NSW Public Schools and the USB Young Women Leadership Academy in 2015.
Rachel demonstrated positive teamwork in the Steer Leading Team and Horse Sports.
In 2015, she was a member of the winning ‘Team of 4’ at thee Royal Easter Show.
Rachel has been actively involved in all aspects of school and community life, regularly representing the school in swimming and athletics.
