Update: Meads Creek Fire – Saturday
FIREFIGHTERS and aircraft were ready to defend three properties on Tunbridge Rd from the Meads Creek Fire yesterday when the fire was upgraded to emergency.
Fortunately, the fire did not reach the properties.
Ringwood Road remains closed and solid containment lines are still being put in place.
The fire is now 9,745 hectares in size, but is classified as being controlled.
While there was some increased fire activity yesterday, but today the winds are not as strong, the temperature is not as high and the fire danger has reduced from severe to very high.
Today, firefighters will continue to work to contain the fire above the Goulburn River between Policeman’s Track and Ringwood Road.
The northern side of the fire is still quite active and the fire is being attacked by grounds crew and aircraft as it comes out into open country.
The Rural Fire Services said people are doing a “really good job” at preparing their own properties, staying vigilant and talking to each other.
The spokesperson said the more prepared a property is for fire, the better firefighters can defend their property.
They urge all residents to remain vigilant and keep their properties prepared.
