Scone Golf Report: October 6 – 10

THE Scone lady golfers have played two rounds of the Club Championships on October 7 and 10 with the final round scheduled for October 14. In quite different playing conditions for the two days some great nett scores have been returned on each day.

Thursday, October 7 started pleasantly but then the wind impacted on play. Mary Ellen Brennan was the winner of the Scone RSL Group prize with 67 nett. Joan Faras was the runner up receiving the Plants on Main voucher with 68 nett. Louise Mathews’ day was highlighted by winning the birdie box on the 13th hole for two balls.

The field consisted of a total of twenty three which is the largest field in many years. There are seven players in Division 1, ten in Division 2 and seven in Division 3. The top three scratch standings in each division after round 1 were Lyn Banks 84, Julie Leckie 85, Dordie Bragg 86; Mary Ellen Brennan 93, Louise Mathews 93, Pam Manning 95 and Noreen Marshall 106, Gillie Bennetto 111, Vonnie Palmer 112.

Balls went to: Mary Ellen Brennan 67, Joan Faras 68, Louise Mathews 69, Judy Carmody, Noreen Marshall, Pam Manning 70, Gillie Bennetto 71, Julie Leckie, Leanda Nutt 73, Janie Holyman, Annie Woods 74 and Sally Archibald 75 nett on a countback from Ann Cameron.

Round 2 was played on Sunday, October 10 with the day starting out warm and windy, and then deteriorating to extremely windy conditions as the day progressed. Coupled with a large amount of run, this made club selection a difficult task.

Julie Leckie had the round of the day with a fine 70 nett and a scratch round of 81. She won the Scone Newsagency prize. Joan Faras took out the runner’s up prize again from Plants on Main with 71 nett on a countback from Nickie Cramsie. Julie Leckie also won the NTP on the 13th hole.

Balls were won by: Julie Leckie 70, Joan Faras, Nickie Cramsie 71, Pam Manning 72, Susan Williams 73, Dordie Bragg, Louise Mathews 74, Judy Carmody, June Jukes, Noreen Marshall 75 and Janie Holyman 76 on a countback from Leanda Nutt.

After two rounds Julie Leckie leads by two shots to Lyn Banks with Dordie Bragg a further two shots behind in division 1. Louise Mathews is one shot ahead of Pam Manning in Division 2 with Mary Ellen Brennan a further four behind. In division 3 Noreen Marshall is nine shots ahead of Yvonne Palmer with Gillie Bennetto in third place.

The nett standings over the field from the starting handicap is quite close with Joan Faras 138, Pam Manning 141, Julie Leckie and Louise Mathews 142 and Mary Ellen Brennan 143 being the leaders.

The final round will be played on Thursday, October 14 kindly sponsored by Sue and Allan Watts and Plants on Main.

On Saturday, October 9, a very good field of 58 players contested an 18 Hole Individual & 2B Stableford sponsored by Scott Shann and Graham Brown. The winners with a fabulous score of 52 points were Bruce Lambert and Yvonne Palmer, significantly enhanced by Yvonne’s individual 45 points! The next best pair was Brad Baker & Mick Alsleben on 50 points. Brad won the individual prize with his round of 44 points on a countback from Jayson Eather.

The highlight of the day for Wes Boyd was a hole in one on the 4th hole. Wes, playing off a +1 handicap, hit an 8 iron on the 154 metre Par 3 to have his first hole in one! As well as the NTP he also got a jackpot of one ball for being inside a metre. Wes’ round of 68 was also the “Best score with preferred lies from the White Tees”. Well done Wes.

Brad Baker took out two NTP’s, the 8that 1.3 metres and the 13that 0.83 metres for a jackpot also of one ball. Mac Dawson won the 17that5 metres. Andrew Parry-Okeden had an eagle 3 on the 2nd hole to start his day off well!

The ball winners were: Yvonne Palmer 45, Brad Baker, Jayson Eather 44, Michael Robinson 42, June Jukes, Daryl Dutton, Brad Hockley 41, Adam Brayshaw, David Bradshaw 40, Wes Boyd 39, Julie Leckie, Luke Stevens, Cheryl Clydsdale 38, Bruce Lambert 37, Jim Elder, Ross Banks, Josh Noble, Lyn Banks, Lindsay Hodge 36, Andrew Dick, Mick Alsleben, Warren Styles, Tony Pringle and Mitchell Spinks 35 points on a countback from Mac Dawson.

Tim Smith was the winner of the Wednesday 18 Hole Medley Stableford sponsored by Scone RSL Group on October 6 with a fine score of 40 points. There were 22 players. Alister Fraser was the runner up with 39 points on a countback from Andrew Parry-Okeden. Balls went to these players plus Luke Stevens, Adam Brayshaw, Peter Teague 37, Will Druitt, Glen Tarrant, Mac Dawson, Charlie Wintle and Jono Keep all on 36 points.

In golf this week the Wednesday competition is available with tee times at any time during the day, the ladies conclude their championships on October 14 and the Saturday event is the Monthly Mug sponsored by the Scone RSL Group on October 17. The men’s championships have been postponed until December 4, 5, 11 and 12.
