Scone Golf Report: Nov 17-20

THERE were ideal conditions for golf on Thursday, November 18 as the Scone lady golfers commenced their summer series of golf with 18 Hole and 9 Hole Stableford events. Seventeen players enjoyed the course with an earlier start to their rounds. Louise Mathews kindly sponsored the 18 Hole Stableford with Joan Shaw being the winner on a countback from Sue Williams when they both had 37 points. Leanda Nutt on 36 points claimed the third place prize. Balls went to these players along with Kerry McLennan 35, Mandy Fisher 33, Mary Ellen Brennan 31 and Lyn Banks 30 points.

In the 9 Hole Stableford Sponsored by the Scone RSL Group Kim Clydsdale was the winner with 18 points, with the runner up being Dinie Bishop on 16 points.

On Wednesday, November 17, there was also a field of seventeen players for the 18 Hole Medley Stableford. The leaders had hot scores with Shane Davis playing late in the day coming in with the best round with a fine 43 points. Mac Dawson, who had a scratch round of 3 under par, had to settle for the runner’s up prize for his 40 points. These two players also won balls along with Charlie Wintle 38, Ross Banks 36, Jake Teague 34, Adam Brayshaw, Huw Llewelyn, Mick Reynolds 33 and Paul McLoughlin 32 points on a countback from Luke Stevens, Jock O’Connor, Scott Shann and Lyn Banks.

The Saturday players also played an 18 Hole Stableford sponsored by James Archibald with prizes generously distributed to the first four places. The course was presented in great condition with significant mowing being done in recent days including a second and third cut being made around the greens.

There were steamy conditions in the morning culminating in a storm mid-afternoon with the players leaving the course. Unfortunately three groups were unable to resume and complete their last few holes as the storm scenario continued.

The winner was Wayne Hedley who had a fabulous 43 points which included three birdies. Kerry McLennan played very good golf with the putter working well for her 42 points to take the second place prize. Third went to Wes Boyd who had 38 points shooting 68 with an eagle and four birdies in his round! The final prize went to Rod Vaughan who had 37 points on a countback from Louise Mathews.

Jeff Harrington set the pace in the NTP’s with a jackpot also for his fine shot inside a metre on the 8th hole at 0.58metres. Mac Dawson won the 4th at 4.29 metres and Paul Smart the 13th at 2.22 metres. Brad Baker playing in the first group hit a nice shot to 3.25 metres with a back flag on the long 17th hole and this lasted the day.

The ball winners were: Wayne Hedley 43, Kerry McLennan 42, Wes Boyd 38, Rod Vaughan, Louise Mathews 37, David Druce, Robert Ryan 36, Matthew Langan, Mac Dawson, Charlie Wintle 35, Baz Wintle 34, Andrew Parry-Okeden, Jock O’Connor 33, Adam Brayshaw, Robert Bingham (V), Stuart Dawson, Lyn Banks, Paul Smart 32, and Brad Baker 31 points.

In coming golf the Open Medley Stableford will be on offer on Wednesday November 24 and on Thursday November 25 the ladies will play an 18 Hole or 9 Hole Stableford sponsored by Judy Carmody. On Saturday November 27 an 18 Hole Individual & 2Ball 2 Digit Stableford will be played sponsored by David Druce and Mick Reynolds.

The men’s Club Championships will be played on the weekends of December 4 & 5, and 11 & 12. A good field is anticipated in the deferred event. It will be played in three grades plus the senior division in scratch and nett events with entries closing on Saturday November 27 at 6pm.
