AFTER eight weeks of no competition golf at Scone, the members were keen to test themselves and the course again on Saturday May 23. Play was in groups of up to four with social distancing and some adjusted playing and safety rules involved. 41 players contested the Darryl Dutton and Jock O’Connor sponsored Medley Stableford.
The morning players may have had the better conditions on a day where the temperature didn’t get above 11 degrees and wind impacting on that figure to a feel like 5-7 degrees. Unfortunately some of the later players also got wet.
Many players found the course difficult as the Thursday rain reduced any run on the fairways and the greens were very slick! The best score of the day was by Phil McGuirk who had 40 points. This won him the B Grade prize narrowly from Brad Baker who had 39 points and Brad Hockley who had 38 points. Garry Taylor won C Grade with 36 points and the best score in A Grade was by Tim Smith who had 34 points to beat Tony O’Neill on a countback.
With no NTP’s being played for some extra balls were in the ball comp. They went to all the above players and Baz Wintle 35, Shane Davis, Geoff Barton 33, Warren Styles, Garry Carter, John Roe 32, Lindsay Hodge, Steve Morse 31, Kevin Thompson, Les Cottam, Wayne Hedley 30, Lyn Banks, Stuart Dawson and David Bradshaw all on 29 on a countback from Charlie Wintle and David O’Donnell.
Play on Thursday, May 21 was scheduled but the rain deterred the field. A Medley Stableford is again available on Thursday, May 28 and Saturday, May 30 with all players needing to book in with the club captains. Bookings open at 9am on Monday’s and need to be made by 5pm the day prior to play. No walk up starts are permitted. At this stage, due to a reduced field capacity with longer spacing between tee times, the competitions are “members only”.
Social players need to note that the course is closed on Thursday until 1pm and on Saturday until 3.05pm.
The event on Saturday, May 30 will be kindly sponsored by Les Cottam, Geoff Ferguson, George Campbell & Lindsay Hodge.
