Online Vigil for Domestic Violence

Filed in Just In by May 6, 2020

DURING the dark days of the pandemic domestic violence is an increasing concern as victims are even more isolated.

While the annual vigil will not be held outside the Council Chambers this year, it will be held online to remember the one in four people who are subjected to family violence and the one woman each week who dies at the hands of their partner.

Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre, said it is important to take pause and reflect on the lives lost and the work which needs to be done to stop family violence.

“It is important to keep shining a light on this issue happening in our community,” said Ms Watts.

“Things are different this year, but we also need to remember those victims who are even more isolated this year, in homes where they feel unsafe,” she said.

“Which is why we have decided to have an online vigil tonight and we hope as many people from the community as possible can join us,” Lee Watts said.
