More about the role

The role of Care Service Employee (CSE) works within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to provide personalised care to residents.  CSEs provide care and support to residents, enabling them to function within the home. CSEs assist with the full range of duties including personal care, maintenance of the home (eg. cooking, cleaning, laundry, gardening) and provide opportunities for residents to engage in activities of daily living (eg. participation in domestic tasks), leisure activities and wider community involvement.

All CSEs work together as a team to give each resident the opportunity to succeed at activities of daily living which promote dignity, self-respect and maintain the resident’s quality of life and abilities. A CSE models appropriate behaviour and encourages a calm, supportive and secure atmosphere.

The essence of this role:

  • Assist residents with personal care, under the supervision of a higher grade CSE.
  • Provide general assistance to higher grade CSEs in the full range of domestic support duties. These duties are carried out in a manner that assists residents to engage in the activities of daily living consistent with their abilities and choice.
  • General assistance to higher grade CSEs in assisting residents to undertake a full range of life engagement activities.

  • Administrative and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathy and patience.
  • The ability to work effectively in a supportive team environment;
  • You genuinely enjoy elderly people, have a regard and understanding of the older generation and want to make a difference to their lives;
  • You have an understanding of dementia (or wish to gain an understanding) and of how to build relationships with people with dementia;
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs;
  • You have excellent communication skills;
  • Past experience of providing care to elderly people in a personal (e.g. caring for a family member) or work situation will be well regarded

Role Demands

The role of a CSE is a physical one, and physical capabilities are required to meet the role demands. We train staff in safe work practices and you need to be aware that the role requires you to be physically capable for all aspects of this role.
