New Long-Term Stock Route Permits

Filed in Just In by August 25, 2020

PRODUCERS can now make submissions for long-term livestock permits that allow access to Travelling Stock Reserves (stock routes) across the Hunter and MidCoast for five years.

Tender applications for the five-year Management Agreement Permit will be assessed by Local Land Services and the permit will only apply to a proportion of carefully assessed stock routes.

Successful tender’s will be based on a producer’s proposed grazing practices and experience, pest management plan, weed management plan and drought impact knowledge, to ensure appropriate ongoing land management and maintenance of stock routes.

Brett Miners, Hunter Local Land Services General Manager said the organisation is committed the sustainable management of stock routes and will only grant Management Access Permits to suitable producers.

“The community expects our stock route network to be properly looked after so that important agricultural, environmental, cultural and social values are preserved,” said Mr Miners.

“These permits are a win-win for producers and the long-term health and viability of our state’s stock route network,” he said.

“Livestock producers get certainty of stock route access, helping them plan and manage their business while also taking on the responsibility of being a custodian of public land,” he said.

“The people of NSW can have greater certainty than ever before that our stock route network is being managed sustainably, helping ensure it remains viable for the future,” said Mr Miners.

Local Land Services is responsible for the care of approximately 30 percent of NSW stock routes and annual permit fee’s will be used to maintain the entire stock route network.

Applications for the Management Agreement Permit are currently open until 5pm, Friday 2 September, with new permits taking effect from January 1, 2021.

All short-term access permits for stock routes will remain available via application.
