Merriwa Skate Park Bigger And Better

MERRIWA’S new $291,000 skatepark on the corner of King George V Avenue and Quigley Street is now open to riders of all abilities, regardless of whether you skate, scoot or bike.

Since 2005, John and Elaine Sparrow have been working with a committee of young people on improving the skate park facilities through the Merriwa Rotary Club.

Designed by Precision Skate Parks, the new skatepark is complete with with double bowls, a rollover and two grind rails connecting riders from the new skate park to the old one.

Concreting was done by Williams Concreting, earthworks were completed by R J Kerr and NT Gleeson Plumbing and the electrician Vero C J & J M & Sons, will begin construction of additional toilet facilities next month.

Toilet facilities will include four unisex toilets, an ambulant toilet and a cubicle with a baby change table.

The skatepark was funded by the New South Wales Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund and Member for the Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen said through this project, the fund is already enriching the lives of locals.

“This skate park is a great way for young people in Merriwa to connect and be active and I thank Upper Hunter Shire Council for its commitment and contribution to this project,” Mr Johnsen said.

Cr Ron Campbell said the new facility offered fun, fitness and a chance to make new friends.
