Filed in Just In by March 17, 2020

THE Chef Magistrate of New South Wales has advised of changes to the operation of local courts to limit the number of people attending court in person, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If you have a matter before Scone Local Court tomorrow or Thursday the court advises the following:

  • if you are unwell, do not appear in court, you MUST send an email to the court advising of why you are unable to appear and include you full name, residential address and contact phone number;
  • if you are appearing in court for the first time and do not have a solicitor, you SHOULD send an email to the court advising whether you are pleading guilty, pleading not guilty, or seeking an adjournment to obtain legal advice, and/or anything else which you wish to tell the Court. Your email should state your full name, residential address and contact phone number;
  • if you are a protected person in relation to an application brought by police for a Domestic Violence Order, you will not be required to attend court;
  • if you are a defendant in an application for an apprehended violence order, you SHOULD send an email to the court advising whether you are or are not consenting to an order being made against you as sought in the application. Your email should state your full name, residential address, and contact phone number.”
  • if you are appearing for sentencing, you MUST contact the local court to discuss your particular matter, to determine if you must present to court;
  • if you are seeking an adjournment for any reason, you SHOULD send an email to the court stating the reason you are seeking an adjournment, your full name, residential address, and contact phone number.
  • if your matter is set down for hearing, you are expected to attend court.

It is anticipated that people will not be allowed to sit in the public gallery in the Court room. Court staff will direct those attending to wait on the lawn outside the building and stand at least 1.5 metres apart from one another.

Emails should be sent to: local.court.scone@justice.nsw.gov.au

If you have any questions in relation to your matter please phone the Scone Court House: 02 6521 5802
The court house closed between 1pm and 2pm each day and closes at 4pm.
