Local Player to Captain Australian Side
JACK Archibald has been announced as captain of the Australian polo team for the world cup to be held in Sydney at the end of October.
Jack’s Belltrees neighbour Alec White has also made the team along with Ellerston based players Lachie Gilmore and James Lester.
“It’s been a big effort for so many guys throughout the Hunter to have made the side,” said Mr Archibald.
“There is a squad of nine, which will be narrowed down to four and we’ll play in the world cup against some of the best countries in the world,” he said.
“We’ll play four games we’ve actually got a really hard pool, we play against tow South American teams Argentina and Chile and then we also play the United States,” he said.
“If we got through I’d like to play New Zealand, because I’m sick of New Zealand beating us at rugby but every team will be tough so I’m not too phased,” he said.
“I’m just looking forward to enjoying it, to enjoying the experience of playing against some of the best players from all around the world and this is the first opportunity to captain the Australian side so that will be really exciting,” said Jack Archibald.
Jack has been riding for as long as he can remember, starting with pony club at Moonan, but playing polo ever since.
He has played polo professionally since leaving school at the age of 18, been based in England for the past ten years and when he’s not in England playing between Australia and Argentina.
The World Cup will be held at Sydney Polo Club, Richmond from October 21 to 29.
